Populations

  • Barakonié River
Type Locality

Upper Barakonié River, Northwestern Gabon.

Distribution

Probably restricted. Replaced to the north by A.flammulatum & south by A.pusillum.
Currently (in first description paper) known from 2 localities both in the Barakonié River drainage.

Habitat

Collected in the upper Barakonié river, less than 1 metre wide. Fish were found to live among roots or dead leaves in the middle of this stream. Also collected further downstream where the width was 2-3 metres. Here they were not found in the main stream but in small areas of stagnant water by the side of the stream. Fish found hidden under leaves & in mud. Reported as being abundant in this area.
Sympatric sp. include an unknown Aphyosemion sp.

Distinguishing Characteristics Females show red in dorsal & anal fins. Also red from upper & lower caudal peduncle extending into the caudal fin.
