Aphyosemion grelli (Cyprinodontiformes: Nothobranchiidae), a new species from the Massif du Chaillu, southern Gabon.

Size

Holotypes - Male 30·7mm, female 29·6mm.

Populations
  • PEG 2002 / 7
PEG 2002 / 7 - 50kms east of the ferry crossing the Ngounié River near Sindara on the RR22 road towards Ikobey (sometimes spelt Ikobé).
Type Locality

PEG 2002 / 7. Small stream crossing the road & draining into the Ikoy River. Northwestern edge of the Du Chaillu Massif. On the road RR22 from southwest to northeast. This location was 1 metre wide & 40cm deep. Sympatric sp. Barbus sp. Collected 9 fish on the 19th January 2002.
GPS - 00°59' 07" south 10°56' 00" east.

Distribution

Currently only known from the type location.

Habitat

Small stream with strong current.

Distinguishing Characteristics Colouration of unpaired fins being mostly solid pale blue. Dorsal & anal outer margin & top outer margin of caudal fin brown/black.
Females unpaired fins are yellow with wide outer margins of black.
Colour/Pattern Variability Probably low.
History

Ten specimens were collected on 22nd January 2002 by Wolfgang Eberl & Guido Passaro on the northwestern edge of the Du Chaillu Massif.
